How age is calculated

Your age is the time elapsed from your date of birth to a chosen date — by default, today. The calculator counts complete years first, then the leftover months, then the leftover days, accounting for the fact that months have different lengths and that leap years add a day. Enter your birth date above and it shows your exact age in years, months and days, plus the totals in days, weeks, hours and minutes.

Counting this way matters: someone born on January 31 isn't simply '30 days' from February 28 — the calculator borrows the correct number of days from the previous month so the result is calendar-accurate.

Your age in days, weeks, hours and minutes

Whole years are the everyday way to give your age, but the same span can be expressed in other units, and the totals get surprisingly large. A 30-year-old has lived roughly 10,950 days, about 1,560 weeks, more than 260,000 hours and over 15 million minutes. The dashboard above shows all of these at once — handy for milestones, birthdays and the simple fun of seeing the numbers.

What day of the week were you born?

Every date falls on a fixed day of the week, set by the Gregorian calendar. The calculator tells you which weekday you were born on — a small detail people love to know and that most age tools leave out. It's computed directly from your birth date, no lookup table needed.

Countdown to your next birthday

The calculator also shows how many days remain until your next birthday and the age you'll turn. If today is your birthday, it shows zero. This is handy for planning, reminders, or working out how long until a milestone birthday like 18, 21, 50 or 100.

Leap years and why they matter

A year is about 365.2422 days, so the calendar adds a leap day (February 29) almost every four years to stay aligned with the seasons. The rule: leap years are divisible by 4, except century years, which must be divisible by 400 — so 2000 was a leap year but 1900 was not. Because the calculator uses real calendar dates, leap days are counted automatically, including for people born on February 29.

Age between any two dates

You're not limited to today. Set the second date to any point in the past or future to find the span between two dates — useful for working out an age on a specific event, the gap between two birthdays, or how old someone will be at a future date. The same calendar-accurate counting applies in both directions.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate my age from my date of birth?

Subtract your birth date from today, counting complete years first, then the remaining months and days. The calculator above does this exactly — accounting for leap years and different month lengths — and also shows your age in total days, weeks, hours and minutes.

How do I calculate age on a specific date?

Set the second date field to the date you want. The calculator finds the exact years, months and days between your birth date and that date, whether it's in the past or the future.

What day of the week was I born on?

Enter your date of birth above and the calculator shows the weekday you were born on, calculated directly from the Gregorian calendar — no need to look it up.

How many days old am I?

It's the number of full days between your birth date and today, including every leap day along the way. The calculator shows your total days, plus weeks, hours and minutes, in the results dashboard.

How does the calculator handle leap years?

It uses real calendar dates, so leap days (February 29) are counted automatically. Leap years are those divisible by 4, except century years not divisible by 400 — so 2000 counted but 1900 did not.

How is age calculated for someone born on February 29?

The calculator counts actual elapsed calendar time, so a leap-day birthday is handled correctly. In common (non-leap) years, the next birthday is generally observed on February 28 or March 1 depending on convention; the day count itself is always exact.

How many days until my next birthday?

The calculator shows the days remaining to your next birthday and the age you'll turn. If today is your birthday it shows zero days.

Can I find the age difference between two people?

Yes — run the calculator twice, or set the birth and second-date fields to two birth dates to see the exact gap in years, months and days between them.
