How to count the days between two dates
The number of days between two dates is the difference in calendar days. The calculator handles the tricky parts for you — month lengths and leap years — and shows the result as days, weeks, months and years at once, plus an exact years-months-days breakdown. Pick a start and end date above and it updates instantly.
By default it counts the gap between the dates (the end day not included). Tick “Include the end day” to count both endpoints — useful for things like hotel nights or billing periods where both days count.
Business days vs calendar days
Calendar days count every day; business days count only Monday to Friday. The calculator shows both, so you can plan a deadline that depends on working days. Note that it excludes weekends but not public holidays, which vary by state and employer — subtract any holidays in your range for an exact working-day count.
Weeks, months and years
The same gap is shown several ways: weeks are days ÷ 7, and the approximate months and years use the average month (30.44 days) and year (365.25 days). For an exact calendar split — say 1 year, 2 months and 5 days — use the years-months-days breakdown, which respects real month lengths.
Counting toward or from a date
If your end date is earlier than your start date, the calculator still works and notes that the range runs backwards — handy for counting how long ago something happened. To add or subtract a number of days from a date instead, that's a date calculator (a related tool); here the focus is the span between two known dates.
Frequently asked questions
How many days are between two dates?
Enter both dates above and the calculator shows the exact number of days, along with weeks, months, years and a years-months-days breakdown. It accounts for leap years and different month lengths automatically.
How do I count business days between two dates?
The calculator shows business days — Monday to Friday only — next to the calendar total. It excludes weekends but not public holidays, so subtract any holidays in your range for an exact working-day figure.
Should I include the last day when counting days?
It depends on the purpose. By default the calculator counts the gap (end day excluded). Tick “Include the end day” to count both endpoints — for example, hotel stays or rental periods where both the first and last day count.
How many weeks are between two dates?
Divide the number of days by 7. The calculator shows weeks (with a decimal) alongside the day count, so a 100-day span is about 14.3 weeks.
Does the calculator handle leap years?
Yes. It counts real calendar days, so February 29 in leap years is included automatically and the years-months-days breakdown stays accurate across them.
What if the end date is before the start date?
The calculator still returns the number of days and notes that the range runs backwards, which is useful for working out how long ago a past date was.
