Grade Calculator
Calculate your weighted course grade from each category's weight and score, with the letter grade — or switch to “grade needed on the final” to find exactly what you must score on the final exam to finish with the grade you want. It also shows whether your target is still reachable.

How to calculate a weighted grade
A weighted grade multiplies each category's score by its weight, adds them up, and divides by the total weight: grade = Σ(weight × score) ÷ Σ(weight). If homework is 20%, the midterm 30% and the final 50%, a student with 95/85/88 earns 0.20×95 + 0.30×85 + 0.50×88 = 88.5%. Add one row per category above and the grade and letter update as you type.
If your weights don't add up to 100% yet (mid-semester, say), the calculator normalizes to the weights you've entered so the running grade still makes sense.
What grade do I need on the final?
Switch to “Grade needed on final” mode to answer the question everyone actually asks before exams. Enter your current grade, the final's weight and the grade you want overall, and the calculator returns the score you need on the final: needed = (desired − current × (1 − w)) ÷ w, where w is the final's weight. If the number is above 100%, your target isn't reachable and the calculator says so.
Percentage to letter grade
US letter grades follow a standard scale: 93–100 is an A, 90–92 A−, 87–89 B+, 83–86 B, 80–82 B−, and so on down to below 60 being an F. The calculator shows the letter next to your percentage. Some schools use slightly different cutoffs, so check your syllabus if you're near a boundary.
Can I still pass?
Use the needed-grade mode with your passing percentage as the target. The calculator also shows your possible range — the lowest and highest final grade you can still finish with given the final's weight — so you can see at a glance whether passing (or an A) is still on the table.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate my weighted grade?
Multiply each category's score by its weight, add them, and divide by the total weight. With homework 20%, midterm 30%, final 50% and scores 95/85/88, the grade is 88.5%. Enter your categories above and it's calculated instantly.
What grade do I need on the final exam?
Use “Grade needed on final” mode: enter your current grade, the final's weight and your desired overall grade. The formula is needed = (desired − current × (1 − weight)) ÷ weight. If it's over 100%, the target isn't reachable.
How do I convert a percentage to a letter grade?
On the standard US scale, 93–100 = A, 90–92 = A−, 87–89 = B+, 83–86 = B, 80–82 = B−, 77–79 = C+, and so on; below 60 is an F. The calculator shows your letter automatically.
Can I still pass the class?
Set your target to the passing grade in needed-final mode. The calculator shows the score required on the final and your possible grade range, so you can tell whether passing is still achievable.
What if my weights don't add up to 100%?
The calculator normalizes to the weights you entered, so it shows a correct running grade mid-semester. Once all categories are in and total 100%, the grade is your final percentage.
How much will the final change my grade?
It depends on its weight. With a final worth 30%, your grade can move at most 30 points from its current value (between current×0.7 and current×0.7 + 30). The needed-final mode shows that exact range.
